Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS)
Tel: 13 14 50
The Australian Government, through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, provides a Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) for people who do not speak English and for English speakers needing to communicate with them.
TIS is a national service, and is available to any person or organisation in Australia requiring interpreting assistance.
TIS is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is accessible from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call.
One of the nationally recognised symbols/logos for TIS is:
How do I use TIS or how can our customers use TIS?
TIS can provide both telephone and on-site interpreters for non-English speakers.
How to use TIS to call AusIndustry:
Step 1: Telephone 13 14 50 direct
Step 2: Tell the Operator the language you need assistance with
Step 3: Give the Operator AusIndustry's hotline number 13 28 46 or the telephone number of the person or organisation you wish to speak to.
Customers are also able to access TIS by calling the AusIndustry hotline direct on 13 28 46. Some of the Hotline agents are bi-lingual and can be called upon to speak to customers where appropriate. Alternatively, the Hotline can co-ordinate the transfer of the customer to the TIS number.
