The objective of the SBAS program is to maximise the growth potential, prosperity and sustainability of small businesses through enhanced access to information and advice on issues important to sustaining and/or growing small business. This program aims to improve the business skills of small business operators and owners.
Small businesses can access a range of advisory services, such as but not limited to:
- business and marketing planning
- leasing guidance
- legal and accounting
- loans and banking advice
- government regulations
The Small Business Advisory Services program consists of 2 initiatives.
1. Business Enterprise Centres – Advisory Services funding
37 Business Enterprise Centres were funded $42m over 4 years to fund the delivery of low cost small business advisory services through nominated BECs throughout Australia. This initiative aims to improve the business skills of small business operators, intending operators and independent contractors.
Individual small businesses seeking advisory services can contact any of the BEC - Advisory Service providers.

2. Natural Disaster Assistance funding
25 advisory service providers have been granted $2.5 m to enable them to expand and strengthen their capacity specifically to provide additional low cost business advisory services to businesses that have been directly and/or indirectly affected by the natural disasters that have occurred in Australia since October 2010.
Individual small businesses that have been affected by these natural disasters, and want to access these services can select a service provider in their area by going to the SBAS NDA service provider list.
